The MRC Holland Foundation in 2022: Making a Change in The Gambia

MRC Holland is a privately owned company that donates most of its profits to the MRC Holland Foundation. The foundation’s main focus is building schools in The Gambia especially in rural areas, in order to improve education.

The foundation invests both in primary and secondary education, as well as in teaching colleges. MRC Holland has also provided scholarships to more than 2000 Gambian students for studies at the University of The Gambia or The Gambia College.

In 2022, over 550 new classrooms were finished, bringing the total number of foundation-built classrooms to 3192. The great majority of these have already been fully furnished and transferred to the Gambian Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education. Around 30% of all government classrooms in The Gambia were built by the foundation and more than 125,000 children will be able to enjoy receiving their education in one of these newly built classrooms.
