Celebrating 40 Years of MRC Holland
This year marks the 40th anniversary of MRC Holland, a company that has established itself as a staple of molecular genetic testing since its founding in 1985 by our CEO, Dr. Jan Schouten. Initially focused on producing restriction enzymes and molecular weight markers, MRC Holland shifted its focus in 1997 to developing new techniques for DNA analysis.
The introduction of MLPA® in 2002 revolutionized the field, establishing this technology as the gold standard in copy number variation detection. Today, more than 350 products are available on the market. Over the past four decades, MRC Holland has continued to innovate, launching new techniques such as digitalMLPA™ – the powerful crossover that brings together MLPA and next-generation sequencing – and a Melt Assay for newborn screening.
Over the years, MRC Holland has sold millions of reactions across at least 80 countries, staying true to its mission of making high-quality genetic tools accessible worldwide. Social responsibility is deeply woven into the fabric of MRC Holland and more than 80% of our profit goes towards supporting educational initiatives through the MRC Holland Foundation.
In honour of this incredible milestone, our team of over 115 employees and their loved ones, hailing from more than a dozen countries, came together last weekend to celebrate. The ARTIS Zoo and Botanical Garden in Amsterdam opened its doors to welcome us for a festive day of conviviality, food, drinks, and music – a day dedicated to looking ahead to a bright future!
